A Texoma gym has shut its doors leaving many gym members confused and upset. The Gym formally known as Gold's Gym off Maplewood Avenue closed its doors Sunday.
Sunday and Monday former gym members came to workout but what they found instead was an empty space and a sign explaining very little.
"I loved coming here," said member Sylvia Brink. "The instructors were great. I didn't think anything was wrong."
The closure was a shock to many but others sensed something was wrong.
"After losing and not keeping the Gold's franchise you assume something is up," said member Rebecca Key.
One guy we spoke with off camera said just last week he paid his one year fee. What's even more surprising is on Saturday the gym had a launch party for some new classes.
So why the sudden closure? Why no notice? The reason is mostly unknown. Newschannel 6 contacted the number listed on the paper plastered to the doors. It belongs to Attorney Monte J White. The only thing he told us was to call back Tuesday and he might have information for us. We do know he handles bankruptcy cases.
Anytime Fitness took time Monday to recruit new members.
"We're servicing these members that have lost the gym that are looking for a place to workout," said Jacob Vasquez. He said many of the classes at The Gym will move to Anytime Fitness with the same instructors.
The Better Business Bureau says the first thing members need to do is contact your bank to cancel any recurring payments and look over your contract. We do not know if members who have already paid for their membership will be reimbursed.
Newschannel 6 tried contacting the owners of the gym but were unable to reach them. We couldn't leave a voicemail because their mailbox was full.
