Archer City Drops Game 1 Heartbreaker

Archer City had Dodd City right where they wanted them in Game 1 of the Region II-A Finals at Lewisville High School.

Twice, in fact.

The Wildcats led 7-2 in the fifth after a 3-run home run by Jody Bullard, but the Hornets rallied back to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th and send it to extra innings.

Then Archer scored two more runs in the top of the 9th, but Dodd rallied again with three runs of their own to win the game.

The final run scored on a bases-loaded walk.

Dodd City has eliminated the Wildcats the past two post-seasons, both times in three games.

This time the Wildcats will need to win both games Friday to advance to the State Tournament in Round Rock next week.

Marty Jentsch is expected to start Game 2 for Archer City, likely opposing Dodd City's Jaylen Wallace. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.

Carter McGregor would start Game 3 if it gets that far, opposing Landon Darwin. That game would start 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.
