Flat Tire Causes Grassfires

A senior truck driver is accused of sparking a string of grassfires in Wichita county with a flat tire.

Deputies said they responded to a fire, Friday afternoon around four, on Business 287 and FM 369. It was near the Wichita Valley Airport, but firefighters got it under control before anything was damaged other than wooden guardrail supports.

Upon arrival, deputies found several small grassfires had been started along the roadway by a vehicle with a flat tire, including a large second fire at Huntington Lane and Eastbound 287.

The vehicle responsible was located in the 1400 block of Rifle Range Road, where Lester Baptist Sargent Sr., 71 was placed under arrest.

The Iowa Park driver was transported to the Wichita County Detention Center and charged with Criminal Mischief over $1,500.00 under $20,000.00. He's also charged with driving without a valid license.
