As Wildfires Rage, Modern Tanker Planes Sought

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - President Barack Obama has signed a bill to add seven large tanker planes to the nation's aerial firefighting fleet, but they won't be ready until around mid-August.
Meanwhile, eight Air National Guard cargo planes that could help fight major wildfires in Wyoming, Colorado, California and North Carolina are sitting on the tarmac.
They can only be used when all private tanker planes already are fighting fires or are unavailable.
