Clay County Outreach is providing gifts for children to pick out for their dad for Father's Day. Newshcannel visited Clay County Outreach to see how the food pantry is also making a great Father's Day possible for needy families.
Clay County Outreach is making Father's Day a bit more special for kids. One by one they can pick out presents.
Don Dickerhoof said if it wasn't for Clay County Outreach he would not have been able to buy his dad a gift. Luis and Christina, who are being raised by their grandfather, are both looking forward for their papa to open his Father's Day present.
Whitney Dowd, newly assigned Director of Clay County Outreach, said it was the previous Director Mildred Gannon, who started the gift tradition for kids in need.
"She just had a heart for those kids and wanted to do something unique and special for them." Dowd added, "It's something that the kids are not always able to do for their parents."
Clay County Outreach hopes to continue to provide needy families with gifts as well as food.
"The parents like seeing their kids do something and give back to them." Dowd added, "It's something that looks new from the store, so it's not like they are getting something that somebody else has discarded. They are able to get their parents something a gift, and feel they're like every other kid."
