Traditional Soap Box Derby Adds New Challenge

The YMCA's annual Soap Box Derby is back...but with a twist!

This year, the organization is introducing the "Build Your Own Challenge" as an adult amateur racing event.

Individuals and groups are encouraged to show off their design creativity by building race cars from scratch. There will be awards and prizes for categories such as "Most Unique".

Of course the Derby will feature all of the traditional events for kids as well.

All of the proceeds from the event benefit the YMCA Partners With Youth Campaign, which helps kids who cannot afford to participate in YMCA programs. Last year, the event raised about $800,000 to help kids in the community.

The fourth annual Soap Box Derby will take place on Saturday, September 22 at the Downtown YMCA.
