We have new information about a rollover accident that killed an Olney teen and hospitalized another. DPS Trooper Tony Fulton told Newschannel 6 the teen who survived the crash lied about who was driving.
Fulton said the 17-year-old boys were heading down Highway 79 on July 3rd, just a mile off the Archer and Young county line. The driver veered into a ditch around 1 p.m. and over corrected, causing the two-door Pontiac to flip several times.
First responders made it to the scene to find the car upside down and the two teens stuck inside. When they helped them out, the surviving young man told them he was the driver.
Both teens were taken to Olney hospital where Zachariah Spears was pronounced dead.
Investigators said they don't know why the teen lied. They said it was his sister's car.
