From the Farm to Market

The Vernon Farmers Market started in May and has seen great success in the community. Each week vendors can apply and pay $10 to bring their products to the lawn of the Wilbarger County Courthouse. Cathy Day is the president of the Farmers Market Committee. She said they regulate the number of craft vendors compared to food vendors, but there are plans for some special occasions.

"On July 21 we have craft day so were going to allow more crafts in than we have and we'll have live music that day," she said. "We'll have other days that we're looking at possibly doing a lesson in canning if people anted to do their own canning from home so maybe bring some people in to want do seminars on farmers markets."

With the rapid success the Vernon Farmers Market has had, organizers are also looking to add music and entertainment on Saturday mornings. The market is open Saturdays through Mid-Septemer from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the town square.
