HS Roundup: Schreiber Signs with Vernon College

Former Windthorst softball standout Brittney Schreiber signed with Vernon College on Tuesday, continuing her career on the diamond.

Schreiber, who went 17-10 with a 4.19 ERA and 197 strikeouts in the circle for the Trojanettes as a senior, will be reunited with her former teammate Kelsey Hise, who will be a sophomore for the Lady Chaps this season.

Schreiber made the team via tryouts earlier this month, and expects to pitch and play first base for Vernon coach Melvin Jenkins.

She batted .348 with five doubles and 23 RBI as a senior.

She told Newschannel 6 that playing for a tradition-rich program like Windthorst helped her on her path to the next level, but a disappointingly early exit from the playoffs gives her extra motivation to thrive in college.

She also made sure to credit her coaches and family for her success.

Rider's Szczepinski Hits the Record Books

Rider soccer standout and MSU signee Drake Szczepinski's name may be hard for some to spell, but if they ever need to look it up, they can do so in the national record books.

His 25 shutouts this spring is the second-best number ever posted in one high school season, behind only the 30 recorded by Ralph Zitzman of St. Louis (MO) Christian Brothers in the 1970-71 season.

His name will be there forever in the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) record book, accessible at www.NFHS.org.
