DUNCAN, Okla. (AP) - Authorities in Stephens County said two teenagers are in jail after police discovered a homemade explosive device during a traffic stop.
The Lawton Constitution reports that 18-year-old James Jefferson Sanders and 19-year-old Jonathan Michael Hatfield had a first court appearance Tuesday where they were each charged with possession of an explosive device.
Duncan police said the men were pulled over on U.S. 81 on Saturday night for not signaling a turn. Police said the men allowed the officer to search the pickup. Officers found a thermos with a green fuse coming out of the lid. Authorities said the thermos was filled with gunpowder.
Sanders is being held without bond and Hatfield is in jail on $1 million bond. Court records did not list an attorney for either man.
