After having very different pool-play experiences, the two Burkburnett Blacksox 17U teams at the AABC Don Mattingly World Series will face each other in the first game of bracket play Thursday.
Playing at the New York Mets' spring-training complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla., the Blacksox 17U-Black team swept through pool play with a perfect 3-0 record.
On Tuesday they defeated Cherry Creek (Colo.) 3-1, then on Wednesday they beat the Ottawa (Can.) Blue Jays 8-1, and Ocean Township (NJ) 8-0, the latter behind a complete-game two-hit shutout from Iowa Park's Jace Langen.
The 17U-Red team on the other hand struggled in pool play.
On Tuesday they fell to Team Colorado 4-0, then on Wednesday they lost 6-1 to Oakland (Mich.) and 7-2 to Phantoms Baseball (Fla.) to finish 0-3.
The divergent roads will meet on Thursday morning, as the two Blacksox teams will face off in the first round of bracket play at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern).
Both teams will play again in the double-elimination event, both at the same time on Friday. The championship game (or games) will be on Sunday.
The Blacksox 17U-Black team won the 2010 Don Mattingly World Series in New Mexico.
