Goen Wins West Texas Golfer of the Year

Wichita Falls golfer Katy Goen won the North Texas PGA Junior Tour's West Summer Series Point Challenge for 2012.

She dominated this summer on her way to Player of the Year honors, racking up 1,385 out of a possible 1,450 points.

She won twelve of 14 events she entered in her age group, beating her closest competitor by 293 points.

Now the rising Lady Coyote junior turns her attention to East Texas, where she is a perfect eight-for-eight so far this year.

Blacksox 17U-Red Turn Things Around, Beat Black

The Burkburnett Blacksox 17U-Red team got their first win of the AABC Don Mattingly World Series Thursday, beating the Blacksox 17U-Black 7-5 in first round of bracket play.

The 17-Black team had gone unbeaten in three pool play games earlier in the week, while the Red had gone winless.

Henrietta's Joe Dell Williams threw five strong innings to pick up the win for the Red, while Rider's Austin Hagy picked up the save and also had a big 2-RBI hit.

Both teams will be in action Friday morning at 9 a.m. (Central Time), with the Black team facing elimination with a loss.
