Blacksox Fall in Mattingly Semis

The Burkburnett Blacksox had a great chance of seeing both of their 17U teams battle it out for a national championship on Sunday, but unfortunately both fell in the semifinals.

Blacksox 17U-Black fell in the AABC Don Mattingly World Series Saturday to the Oakland (Mich.) Bulldogs, 5-2, eliminating them from the tournament.

At the same time, on a different field at the New York Mets' spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Florida, the Blacksox 17U-Red fell to Cherry Creek (Colo.) by a 9-1 score.

It was a tough end to a great season for the Blacksox organization.

In addition to the two 17U teams, the Blacksox 15U team reached the finals of the AABC Ken Griffey, Jr. World Series in Surprise, Ariz., before falling to Rockford (Ill.).

Also, four Blacksox alumni were drafted in the 2012 MLB Draft, including Wichita Falls High School standout Griffin Russell.
