Grass Fire Forces People To Leave Homes Behind

Posted: Updated:

A grass fire spread dangerously close in North Burkburnett forcing people to leave their homes behind.

Wichita West, Cameron Gardens, Iowa Park, Punkin Center, Burkburnett, and Sheppard Air Force Base Fire Rescue crews worked together to fight the fire that started sometime before 12:45 p.m. Monday.

People were evacuated from their houses along Bohner Rd. At least 6 houses were in danger before firefighters contained the blaze.

No homes were damaged. About 600 acres were scorched.

Officials said the fire was most likely caused by oil field workers repairing a fuse panel. The sparks might have set it off. They had water on scene, but it got out of control.
