One Texoma non-profit continues to improve the lives of the mentally ill.
Hannah Fryer, Program Coordinator with National Alliance on Mental Illness, said many who need the help are taking advantage of what NAMI has to offer.
"Our promise to the community now is to offer education." Fryer added, "We've been doing it for a while and we know our program has proven good results. We want to continue that and do it well."
NAMI provides various educational courses, support groups and peer-to-peer programs.
"The responsibility falls upon them to care for the person who is dealing with a mental illness, and that can take a toll on their health." Fryer added, "It's essential that they get the support they need."
Dealing with mental illness includes schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADD, ADHD, Autism, eating disorders, or postpartum. The illnesses listed are some of many mental illnesses.
NAMI'S Family To Family 12 week course is set to start August 30th. Registration is still open and classes are free. NAMI is currently looking for volunteers to do office work and even teach classes. They said training will be provided.
