Second-year Hirschi Head Coach Cody Slater is no stranger to turnarounds.
Two years ago he led Miles to the playoffs for the first time in ten years.
Now Slater's looking to turn a Husky team with just seven wins in the past five years into a winner.
At practice he tells his team the goal is 10-and-0, a perfect season.
With a smaller district this year, the Huskies do have an easier road to the playoffs.
"It makes you want to turn the losing streak around," says senior running back Queysean Sanders. "It gives us a lot of motivation because this can be the first year Hirschi's made it back to the playoffs in a long time."
It's been six years, to be exact. The Huskies last made the playoffs in 2006, which was coach Neil Searcy's first season.
The Huskies seem to have skilled players every year, but if this is the year they to put things together, it will all start up front.
"With those guys paying their dues in the weight room, and out there in speed-training, I think that's going to pay big dividends for us to get our skill kids loose," says Coach Slater.
Another big part of turning things around is the mental side of the game. Simply, the players must believe they can win.
"We need to have a winner mindset," said senior receiver and safety Dominique Bobo. "Don't give up, and play hard all the time."
Both Bobo and Sanders spent some time at quarterback last year, but they're practicing this year at wide receiver and running back, respectively.
A more defined role could help them excel.
"I could play anywhere," says Bobo. "But I just like to play receiver. I like to catch the ball and score touchdowns."
For the Huskies to return to the playoffs for the first time since '06, they know what they need to do.
"It just means we have to step up and play harder, all the games in district," says Bobo.
If the Huskies can pick up two wins in district, they'll be able to rest up for the playoffs. Their bye week comes at the end of the regular season.
