A driver fell asleep behind the wheel Saturday causing a one-vehicle rollover accident and small grass fire.
It happened about five miles north of the Vernon on U.S. 283. Trooper Tony Fulton confirmed with Newschannel 6 that a 33-year-old driver from of Olustee, Ok, admitted to falling asleep before his southbound 2002 Pontiac veered across the two-lane highway and overturned into a field.
The driver and front-seat passenger both weren't wearing seat belts and were ejected from the car. There was also a 13-year-old boy in the backseat who was wearing a seat belt.
Grass around the vehicle caught fire while the victims were being treated in ambulances.
AirEvac Lifeteam flew the driver to United Regional for treatment of serious injuries. He was later discharged. The front seat passenser also had serious injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.
