MCKINNEY, Texas (AP) - A jury has found a man guilty of capital murder in the beating death of his ex-girlfriend, a North Texas fitness instructor.
The verdict came just after 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the trial of 50-year-old Terrance Black in the death last year of 40-year-old Susan Loper of Frisco. The Collin County jury deliberated about four hours before returning its verdict in a McKinney state district court.
Black will get an automatic life sentence since prosecutors weren't seeking the death penalty.
Loper was found beaten to death in a field near Dallas North Tollway in April 2011. She had been missing from the day before at a Plano country club where she worked. Two days after Loper's body was found, Black was arrested in Arizona after jumping into the Grand Canyon.
