MSU Football Stays #4 in AFCA Poll

Midwestern State remained at No. 4 in the first regular season coaches' poll released by the American Football Coaches' Association Monday afternoon.
 
The Mustangs begin the 2012 campaign at Tarleton State on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
 
MSU is one of eight teams in the newly formed Super Region Four which now includes the Lone Star Conference, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) to receive mention in the poll.
 
The Mustangs lead the way at No. 4 followed by No. 6 Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 7 Grand Valley State (Mich.), No. 9 Abilene Christian and No. 24 Texas A&M-Kingsville.
 
All enjoyed big opening week victories as CSUP bested West Texas A&M 44-34 at home, GVSU rolled past Western Oregon 48-20, ACU whipped McMurry 51-0 and TAMUK blasted Central Washington by a 35-7 margin.
 
No. 9 Abilene Christian plays host to No. 24 Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday in one of just Top 25 showdowns this week. The other pits No. 10 California (Pa.) against No. 11 Kutztown (Pa.).
 
Colorado Mines, West Texas A&M and New Mexico Highlands are the other Super Region Four teams receiving mention in the poll.
 
Midwestern State has received votes in 72 of the last 73 AFCA polls dating back to the 2006 season.
