Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama has strongly condemned the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens.

In a White House statement, the president calls Stevens "a courageous and exemplary representative of the United States."

The protesters were angry over a film that ridiculed Islam's Prophet Muhammad.
