Midwestern State's Fernando Garza was tabbed Lone Star Conference Defensive
Player of the Week Wednesday when league officials released weekly award
winners.
The senior defender from Garland's solid play at left back
keyed a pair of solid defensive efforts in 5th-ranked MSU's victories of Newman
(Kan.) and Colorado State-Pueblo last week.
Garza helped organize a
defense that allowed just five shots on frame in nearly 200 minutes of play to
produce a pair of positive results.
The Mustangs rank 13th in team goals
against average (0.31), 16th in shutout percentage (0.67) and 23rd in save
percentage (0.857) in the latest NCAA Division II national statistical
rankings.
West Texas A&M senior midfielder Dominic Furness notched
two goals and two assists to lead the Buffs to wins over No. 11 Colorado Mines
and Regis (Colo.) to gain the league's top offensive honors.
Midwestern
State hits the road to face Texas A&M International Friday at 7:30 p.m.
