Wildcats Fall in Season-Opening Shootout

The Wichita Falls Wildcats rallied twice in the third period to tie, but fell to the Aberdeen Wings 3-2 in a shootout in their 2012 season debut at the NAHL Showcase Tournament in Blaine, Minnesota.

After falling behind 1-0 with four minutes remaining in the second period, the Wildcats tied it up just 2:36 into the third when Kyle Bauman beat Aberdeen goalie Marcus Zelzer top-shelf off an assist from Eliot Grauer.

The Wings regained the lead with 3:17 left in regulation, when Joe Sullivan beat Wildcats goalie Evan Cowley (30 shots, 28 saves) to make it a 2-1 game.

But just 24 seconds later the Wildcats again tied the game. Ryan Dau poked home a rebound of Will Vosejpka's shot to even the score at two.

The game went through a scoreless overtime, then in the shootout Aberdeen scored twice while the Wildcats couldn't find the back of the net.

Next up for the Wildcats is a 10:30 a.m. (Central Time) game against the Janesville Jets, who beat Minot 5-3 on Wednesday.

The Wildcats open up their home schedule next Friday, September 21 against the Corpus Christi Ice Rays at 7:15 p.m.

Note the new home start time for this season, which is ten minutes later than in previous seasons.
