STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - Police said it appears a student who killed himself this morning at Stillwater Junior High School didn't intend to harm anyone else.
The 13-year-old boy shot himself in a hallway just before 8 o'clock before classes began. Students already inside classrooms were locked in for safety while staffers evacuated hundreds of others from the junior high and an adjacent elementary school.
One student who heard the shot said a teacher yelled at students to get out of the building. Some said they feared a gunman might be on the loose and only learned of the suicide from news reports.
Classes were canceled and parents were told to pick up their children at a nearby shopping center.
