The Rider Raiders wasted no time Thursday night, jumping on top of Byron Nelson with touchdowns on their first two possessions on their way to a 50-14 win, opening District 5-4A in style.
After a three-and-out on the Bobcats' (3-1, 0-1) first drive, Rider marched down the field, capping it off with a 1-yard touchdown out of the single wing by Domanic Thrasher.
After another stop, the Raiders scored again, with J.T. Barrett connecting twice with junior Josh Price, the second a ten-yard touchdown pass. Price caught the ball in the left flat and was able to walk in to the end zone.
Byron Nelson answered back with a 71-yard bomb from Blake Clinton to Austin Flickinger to cut the lead in half, but the Raiders got two more touchdowns from Thrasher to go into halftime up 28-7.
Barrett scored two more touchdowns in the second half, separated by Nelson's Tylor Blake's 2-yard score, and Carlos Fleeks got the last score for the final margin.
The Raiders (3-1, 1-0) will hit the road to Fort Worth Brewer next Friday night. They'll have a chance to scout the Bears as they come to town this Friday to face the Coyotes.
In Six-Man action Thursday night, Newcastle beat Knox City's junior varsity 46-28. The Bobcats were scheduled to face Crowell's JV, but the Wildcats had to call players up to varsity and could not field a full JV team.
