Olney Without Water

Posted: Updated:

Some Olney residents have been without water since Thursday, but those who have their water back are under a boil order until further notice.

An electric company was repairing a power pole and accidentally drilled into the main water line.

The city remains under a stage three drought, and a water main break is the last thing city leaders and residents want to deal with.

City officials said the city stopped all water from running until the pipe got repaired, but when crews fixed the pipe, another pipe burst. They said that caused an even bigger mess.

Danny Parker, Olney city manager, said, "I would just ask the residents to be patient. They generally are because we have a good community here and they understand these types of things happen." Parker added, "We had a lot of folks bring us snacks and drinks so we do appreciate their patience."

City officials said everyone should have water by the end of the day Friday. About 1,700 residents were affected by the water main break.

All residents are under a boil order until further notice. The city is waiting on water test results to come back from the lab.
