Plant Thief Crackdown

Posted: Updated:

WICHITA FALLS - The City's Parks Department has begun their fall planting by clearing 210 flowerbeds of spring and summer plants and replacing them with 49,000 pansies. During June of this year, City employees began noticing that someone was stealing their freshly planted ornamental grasses and flowers. Forty-four beds were hit costing the taxpayers over $7500.00.

Anyone who might have witnessed someone taking plants is encouraged to call 9-1-1. Do not approach the individual(s). If someone has witnessed possible theft, call the non-emergency number of the Police Department, 761-7792, and report what was seen.

The City of Wichita Falls is fully prepared to prosecute any individual(s) caught stealing from plant beds. Theft of this type is a felony punishable by up to two years in jail and a fine not to exceed $10,000.

For more information, please contact the Public Information Office at 761-7401.
