GOTW: Vernon at Graham

The Graham Steers and Vernon Lions kick off District 5-3A action in our Dr Pepper Game of the Week.

Both teams enter the showdown at 5-1, each losing to undefeated teams in Abilene Wylie and Gainesville. 2012 is going as expected for Graham with the Steers expected to compete for the district championship entering the season. Meanwhile, Vernon has exceeded expectations, winning more games to start 2012 than the last full three seasons combined.

With the district's other three teams, Burkburnett, Iowa Park and Hirschi, a combined 2-13, this district opener could decide the district championship.

The game will be a bit of a contrast in styles.

The Lions rely on the old-school Wing-T offense, grinding it out with stable of running backs, including week three Texas Ford Player of the Week Danny Valverde.

The Steers have a balanced offense led by junior quarterback Ben Davis, who has completed 68.3% of his passes this season for 1,157 yards and ten touchdowns to just three interceptions.
