Opening Of 85-mph Toll Road Nears

Posted: Updated:

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Opening day is less than two weeks away for the last leg of a Central Texas toll road with the nation's fastest speed limit, allowing motorists to bypass Austin and San Antonio at up to 85 mph.

The stretch of Texas 130 from south Austin to Interstate 10 at Seguin is to open Oct. 24 after three years of construction. A 41-mile stretch of the toll road between Georgetown and south Austin already is open.

Tolls for personal vehicles displaying an electronic toll tag will be about 15 cents per mile. The San Antonio Express-News reports untagged vehicles will be billed at a slightly higher rate. No tolls will be collected until Nov. 11.

The public-private project was built by San Antonio-based Zachry American Infrastructure and Spanish-based Cintra.
