Zombies To Take Over Wichita Falls, Run For Your Life!

The Wichita Falls Zombie Crawl & 5k is a fun run designed to promote fitness in a unique running environment, and bring awareness and promote revitalization of historic downtown Wichita Falls.

Downtown Wichita Falls Development and 99.9 KLUR are teaming up once again to deliver a truly unique one-of-a-kind event to raise money for two worthy local non-profits. The proceeds of the Wichita Falls Zombie Crawl & 5K will benefit DWFD,Inc. and the North Central Texas Chapter of American Red Cross.

The zombie crawl is a free, public event where people gather in zombie costumes, and walk or "crawl" through downtown. The fun run takes runners through an urban course with a post-apocalyptic setting- down city streets, through alleys, parking garages and vacant warehouses. The Participants of the 5K run are required to register as either a "Zombie" or a "Survivor" and encouraged to dress accordingly for the run. Runners can pre-register for the 5K online at www.getInfected.org. The pre-registration fee is $25, registration the day of the run is $30. Awards will be given for best finish times, and best costumes. KLUR is hosing a Zombie Costume Contest; prizes will be given for Best Dressed zombies. This event is family-friendly; we encourage everyone to come out even if you are not a runner to spectate along the course route.

The event opens at 4:30 p.m. at the Farmers Market (8th & Ohio St). The Zombie Crawl starts at 6:30 p.m., and the 5K kicks off at 7:15 p.m.  Free live music and entertainment, a variety of food  & specialty vendors, face painters, and demonstrations will be available under the Farmers Market during the event.

New to 2012 is the addition of the Zombie Crawl Art Contest, where local artists can showcase their talents and win cash prizes for their best "creepy" art. Deadline for entry is October 15th.  "Dawn of the Fed" is a relay-style rib eating contest pitting local Fire Departments against one another.
