A new fire station is underway for the Joy Volunteer Fire Department. It is bigger and better and is helping to improve your safety.
The new station will be 5,400 square feet and have 16-foot walls. It will be located in front of the Joy Community Center.
Their current old and out-dated fire station has served the Joy Volunteer Fire Department well, but it is time for an upgrade.
Joy VFD is on their way to a new facility that will house five trucks, will provide office space, and storage space for equipment and gear, a training room and an evacuation center.
The department said all would not have been possible if it wasn't for the communities support.
Fire Chief Clay Skelton, said, "It makes the fire department feel great. We know that we are appreciated and we appreciate the community for all the help they give us." Chief Skelton added, "It's been a long time coming, but I think it will be something that we can be proud. This community can look at the new station and be proud that it's here for us."
Joy VFD is hosting a few events to help raise money to pay off the new station.
Saturday October 27th, the department is hosting their annual Smokey Bear Motorcycle Fun Run.
On November 3rd the department is serving a brisket and sausage dinner. They will be raffling off a custom made smoker.
For more information on these events you can contact Joy VFD at (940) 781 - 7630.
