Operation Thanksgiving

Posted: Updated:

Sheppard Air Force Base is hoping more Texoma families sign up to host military members this Thanksgiving holiday.

They have about 100 families signed up and about 250 airmen on the list. Sheppard officials said host families will get either two to four airmen, but they still need more sponsors.

It has been a tradition for 36 years and airmen who participate in Operation Thanksgiving will go to a sponsors homes Thanksgiving Day.

Sheppard officials said every year airmen look forward to the day and so do sponsors, but for the past few years they have lost some sponsors.

Sheppard Air Force Base encourage families to sign up.

Patrick Moore, Chaplain Captain at Sheppard Air Force Base, said, "It's a wonderful opportunity, especially if families don't have any ties with the military." Chaplain added, "This could be relief for a trainee just to experience a normal Thanksgiving."

The deadline to sign up for Operation Thanksgiving is this Friday, the 16th. If you want to sign up for Operation Thanksgiving, but don't have base access you will need to give your license information, the state it was issued in and your birth date.

If you would like to sign up you can call the Solid Rock Cafe on the base at (940) 676-0014. Sheppard officials said the airmen don't need anything extravagant, just a home to spend the holiday.
