MSU Women Still Receiving Votes in Poll

Midwestern State continues to receive votes in the latest USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll released Tuesday afternoon.

The Mustangs are off to their best start since opening the 2000-01 season with four consecutive wins on the way to the program's only Lone Star Conference championship.

MSU improved to 4-0 with a 78-59 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State Sunday afternoon in Goodwell. It's the fourth time in program history that Midwestern has opening the season with four straight wins.

The Mustangs are one of two unbeaten teams in the league joining Texas A&M-Commerce (2-0).

MSU received eight votes this week's which is down from the 25 it received a week ago. It's just the second time in program history the Mustangs have received votes in consecutive weeks after receiving mention in five consecutive polls last season.

Midwestern has never achieved a national ranking as an NCAA Division II program.

The Mustangs are one of seven teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the poll, but no team is currently among the Top 25. Tarleton State (Texas), Metropolitan State (Colo.), Fort Lewis (Colo.), Colorado Mesa, St. Mary's (Texas), MSU and Colorado State-Pueblo are all receiving votes.

Midwestern opens Lone Star Conference with a pair of games on the road this week. The Mustangs take on Incarnate Word Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. in San Antonio before battling Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday afternoon at 1.
