
Midwestern State continues to receive votes in the latest USA Today Sports
Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll released Tuesday afternoon.
The
Mustangs are off to their best start since opening the 2000-01 season with four
consecutive wins on the way to the program's only Lone Star Conference
championship.
MSU improved to 4-0 with a 78-59 win over Oklahoma
Panhandle State Sunday afternoon in Goodwell. It's the fourth time in program
history that Midwestern has opening the season with four straight
wins.
The Mustangs are one of two unbeaten teams in the league joining
Texas A&M-Commerce (2-0).
MSU received eight votes this week's which
is down from the 25 it received a week ago. It's just the second time in program
history the Mustangs have received votes in consecutive weeks after receiving
mention in five consecutive polls last season.
Midwestern has never
achieved a national ranking as an NCAA Division II program.
The Mustangs
are one of seven teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the
poll, but no team is currently among the Top 25. Tarleton State (Texas),
Metropolitan State (Colo.), Fort Lewis (Colo.), Colorado Mesa, St. Mary's
(Texas), MSU and Colorado State-Pueblo are all receiving
votes.
Midwestern opens Lone Star Conference with a pair of games on the
road this week. The Mustangs take on Incarnate Word Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
in San Antonio before battling Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday afternoon at 1.
