Kids Scrambled For 10,000 Candy Canes

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of kids ran around Scotland Park in Wichita Falls Saturday afternoon, to grab up as many candy canes as they could.

Ten thousand candy canes were scattered around the park, as part of the Great Candy Cane Scramble.

The Scramble was part of the Wichita Falls' Parks and Recreation Department's annual "Christmas in the Park" event.

Santa, Mrs. Claus and their elves were there and oversaw the scramble.

"(Santa) always arrives right before the Candy Cane Scramble and then he filters inside and all the kids get a chance to sit on his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas," said Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator Amy McKim. The kids also got to play carnival games and do arts and crafts.

McKim said there was a great turnout this year, despite, or may even because of the colder temperatures. "I think it's actually better that it's a little cooler because it brings people out and kind of puts them in the holiday spirit a little bit more," said McKim.
