Throckmorton Wins 2nd Straight State Title

At Throckmorton practice last week, the back of several jerseys said "repeat"

Mission accomplished.

The Greyhounds defended their 2011 state championship with a 72-30 win over Abbott to take home this year's title.

Throckmorton and Panthers traded punches all through the first quarter (tied at 16 after one) and through most of the first half (Throck led 40-24 at the half).

However, like many games against top foes this season, the Greyhounds dominated the second half, outscoring the Panthers 32-8.

Three different Greyhounds threw a TD pass: Bryson Oliver, Rawlin Morrell and Levi Taylor.

With 257 yards passing and five touchdowns, Oliver earned MVP honors. Senior Gary Farquhar caught five balls for 190 yards and two touchdowns, while fellow senior Taylor added a pair of TD runs to his TD pass.

The Greyhounds now have more state titles than losses (one) in the past two seasons. The state title is the third overall for the program: 2012, 2011, 2005.
