Beam Hanging will Close US 287/82 for One Night

Posted: Updated:

Bridge workers will be hanging beams for the new Windthorst overpass in Wichita Falls. Due to safety and space, US 287/82 in both directions will be CLOSED underneath the Old Windthorst Bridge. The closure will take place for just one night Thursday, December 20, 2012.

The closure will begin at 7pm and reopen at 7am the next day, Friday, December 21, 2012

Detours will be in place for all freeway traffic to exit to the frontage roads and drive around the work. The old Windthorst Bridge will be closed too.

The nighttime closure is dependent on good weather. Any rain, snow, sleet, or wind will force the job to be rescheduled.

Wichitans are asked to avoid the area if possible and find an alternate route this Thursday night. Police officers will be working the site to help

The construction is part of a $2.7 million dollar project to build a new 84' bridge for Windthorst road. The new structure will have two 14' wide lanes with two 11' shoulders, sidewalks, and one Texas turnaround. Being built in phases, once half the new bridge is open to traffic the old structure will be demolished. Crews will then start on the second half of the new bridge.

Construction started in September and should be finished by Summer 2013.
