Several Vernon residents are without a home. The Vernon Fire Chief said an alarm went off for a fire at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Augustan Apartment Complex in Vernon. Firefighters responded in two minutes and found two end units in building "F" on fire. The blaze reportedly spread quickly through the attic.
A total of 14 units suffered damage. Vernon Fire Chief said the top flood suffered fire damage and the bottom apartments suffered water damage. Officials think the blaze may be cooking related. Fire crews told us they would stay there through the night to check for hot spots. No one was injured. Holiday Inn Express and Calvary Baptist Church off 2101 Yucca Lane are helping displaced residents. All other nearby residents who were evacuated were able to return back to their home Sunday night.
