Wichita Co. Burn Ban Lifted

The Wichita County Judge Pro-Tem Commissioner Pat Norriss, Monday, January 14, 2013 terminated the burn ban that was established on December 3rd, 2012.

The removal of the ban takes effect immediately. However, the burning of trash or trash pits is still not authorized.

Individuals wishing to conduct a controlled burn are reminded that they must contact the appropriate dispatch center for the fire department in their area prior to starting the burn. The dispatching center for areas served by the Burkburnett, Cameron Gardens or Wichita East Volunteer Fire Department is the Burkburnett Police Department, (940) 569-2231.

For the areas served by the Electra, Kamay, or Punkin Center Volunteer Fire Departments the dispatching agency is the Electra Police Department at (940) 495-2131. Finally for areas served by Iowa Park or the Wichita West Volunteer Fire Department, please contact the police dispatcher at Iowa Park (940) 592-2181.

They are also reminded that winds must be less than 20 miles per hour, burns must be conducted between sun up and sun down, firebreaks must be cut before the burn is started, and the burn must be supervised at all times.

It is important for each property owner to note that if the burn gets out of control, liability will fall on them and they will be held responsible for any damages caused by the burn.
