A Waurika family is mourning the loss of a young Texoma girl killed in a house fire Saturday evening. The fire started just before 8:00p.m. on N. Meridian in Waurika.
An Oklahoma Assistant State Fire Marshal says the young girl, her two brothers and a friend were all at home when the fire sparked.
The two brothers and the friend smelled smoke and were able to get out. The older brother realized his 11 year old sister was still inside.
The Waurika Police Chief rushed in to help but wasn't able to. The chief suffered second degree burns. The child's body was found inside the home. She is now being sent to Oklahoma City for an autopsy.
Fire crews believe the blaze started in the girl's room, but the cause of the fire is still unknown. There were no working smoke detectors in the home.
