Current Garland defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Danny Russell will be the next head coach and athletic coordinator of Wichita Falls High School.
Russell was confirmed in Monday night's WFISD Board meeting.
WFISD Athletic Director Kenny Catney tells Newschannel 6 he hopes to have Russell in town this week, and on the job by next week. Russell is still working to get out of his contract in Garland.
Russell spent the past 19 years on staff at GHS, the past 11 in his current role as defensive coordinator.
In his time with Garland, the Owls won 14 district titles and reached the playoffs 17 times in 19 seasons at the 5A level.
Russell helped Garland win a state title in 1996, and then reached the state semifinals in 2006.
Over the team's past 110 district games, they own a record of 96-14, good for an .873 winning percentage.
