A West Texas man is accused of murdering a pregnant Texoma woman who went missing more than a year ago.
Jeremy Paul Thornburg, 24, of Sweetwater Texas, was arrested Monday, in Abilene, by the Texas Rangers and Graham Police Department in connection with the disappearance and murder of Graham resident Candice Renee Shields. Thornburg is being held in the Young County Jail with a bond set at $750.000.
On December 11, 2011, Candice Renee Shields was reported missing from a residence in Graham. Shields' disappearance has been the subject of a joint investigation by the Graham Police Department and the Texas Rangers since that time.
Thornburg has been a person of interest in the investigation as he was one of the last people to have spoken with Shields the night of her disappearance. The investigation confirmed that Thornburg had been in a personal relationship with Shields.
Investigators developed information that showed Thornburg traveled to Graham on the night of the disappearance and met with Shields at her residence in Graham. Shields then left the residence with Thornburg in the early hours of December 11, 2011.
There is no word from officials about whether her body was found. The family tells Newschannel 6 Thornburg may have been the father to her unborn baby. Candice was also the mother of a young boy who is being taken care of by family. They tell Newschannel 6 they were shocked to hear about this but they finally have some closure.
