
Midwestern State's Kim Jerrick garnered Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week
honors Tuesday when league officials announced weekly awards.
The junior
catcher rocked a .600 average going 12-for-20 at the plate while raking four
doubles and three homers driving in 11 runs to lead the Mustangs to a 4-2
showing at the Grand Canyon Invitational last weekend in
Phoenix.
Jerrick became the first player in MSU program history to notch
three career multiple home run games when she launched two homers while driving
in a school single-game record six runs Sunday against Western New
Mexico.
The outbreak included her second collegiate grand slam as she
homered in consecutive innings.
The Belle Plaine, Kan. native collected
a hit in each of the Mustangs' six games accounting for four doubles and three
home runs out of her league leading 12 hits.
Angelo State's Sandra Serna
earned top pitcher honors after posting a 3-0 mark with a 0.54 ERA last weekend
at the St. Mary's Intercollegiate Invitational.
Midwestern State
competes in the Texas A&M-Kingsville Invitational with games against Texas
A&M International and St. Edward's both on Saturday and Sunday.
Midwestern State received votes in the National Association of Basketball
Coaches' Division II Coaches' Poll as released Tuesday afternoon.
The
Mustangs (14-5) have won eight of their last 10 games and hold a two-game lead
in the quest for their seventh Lone Star Conference championship.
MSU
opened the season at No. 23, then received votes in the Nov. 20 edition before
falling out following losses to Colorado State-Pueblo and Ouachita Baptist
(Ark.).
The Mustangs are one of five teams from the South Central Region
to receive mention in the poll joining No. 1 Metropolitan State (Colo.), No. 14
Adams State (Colo.) and No. 20 Fort Lewis (Colo.) while Newman (Kan.) is also
receiving votes.
Midwestern takes on rival West Texas A&M Wednesday
night at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
