Two more Texoma athletes are heading off to play college ball next year!
Wichita Christian volleyball standout Ashtin Battista signed to play at NAIA Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Oklahoma Friday morning in the WCS Gym.
Battista was named TAPPS First-Team All-State in 2011 and 2012, leading the Lady Stars to a pair of playoff appearances.
She also took second at the TAPPS 1A State Track meet in the 100 meter dash in 2012.
"This is what I've been wanting since I started playing volleyball, so just to know that it's actually coming true is unbelievable," Battista said.
She said she's excited to play with her friend, former Iowa Park volleyball setter Jessie Crenshaw in Bethany.
"She called me and was saying that they saw my film, and wanted me to come. So I was like, 'Oh, my goodness I am so for it,' so I went there and I saw it and it was just perfect."
Bowie Football star Derek Bendure also signed Friday, joining the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma.
Bendure played mostly receiver and linebacker for the Jackrabbits, but will switch to tight end in college.
He said the OPSU coaches liked his height and athleticism, and thought he would be a natural fit as a pass-catching tight end.
"He had mentioned he was looking at me for more of a passing tight end," Bendure said. "They liked my frame, they thought I had the right build for the tight end position, and they liked my speed that also came with it."
Bendure joins Hirschi lineman Dalonta Perry in signing with Oklahoma Panhandle State this week.
