ALTUS, Okla. (AP) - Altus police say two long-time police officers have been arrested on conspiracy complaints. They will be formally charged Monday.
Police Chief Tim Murphy said Friday that Officers Russell Hansel and Jose Arce were arrested Thursday following a six month investigation and are being held in the Jackson County jail pending a bail hearing.
Murphy said the officers are on paid leave and he doesn't know if they have attorneys.
Amended complaints filed Friday show Hansel is being held on three counts of conspiracy, two counts of concealing stolen property and three counts of possession of a firearm with its serial number removed. His bond has been set at $500,000.
Arce is being held on one conspiracy count with a bond set for 250,000.
Murphy said Hansel had been an Altus police officer for 17 years and Arce for 11 years.
