Nocona ISD Employee Killed In Head-On-Collision

Posted: Updated:

A weekend head-on-collision killed a Nocona ISD employee and injured three others.

DPS PIO Trooper Tony Fulton said the crash happened late Saturday around 10 p.m. in Haskell County. Fulton said Jesus Ortiz, 51, of Weinert was driving the wrong way on Hwy 277 when his vehicle crashed into the car carrying 49-year-old Dawn Carpenter and two others.

Ortiz was sent to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. The driver and one other passenger were injured, and sent to Knox Co. Hospital. Carpenter was pronounced dead at the scene. Fulton said she was wearing her seatbelt.

Carpenter served as the Technology Director for Nocona ISD. She had been with the district for 14 years.

Nocona ISD Super Vickie Gearheart told Newchannel 6 Carpenter was loved by the staff and did a tremendous job upgrading the infrastructure that allows kids to access technology and information for the 21st century.

Nocona ISD is waiting to hear from her family about any memorial service plans.
