Newschannel 6 is working to get answers about a suffocating smell on Rt. 25 between Electra and Punkin Center.
We knocked on doors and spoke with residents, many of whom didn't want to go on camera, some told us they noticed the smell getting worse when Reidco Enterprises started operating a few years ago. Mildred Henshaw lives on Rt. 25, she said, "The only way I can describe it is if you've ever been to Odessa, out there where all the plants are and stuff that's kind of what it smells like."
Newschannel 6 called Reidco's office several times, leaving multiple voicemails, but never got a call back.
Official channels led us to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the agency responsible for monitoring the state's air. A spokesman for the TCEQ said they do have an open investigation regarding the odor, but it could be weeks before they have any results.
Henshaw said, she's just looking for answers, "I would just like to see if its safe, other than that everybody's got to make a living."
