
Inclement weather conditions have forced the postponement of Midwestern State's
softball doubleheader with Central Oklahoma originally set for Tuesday
afternoon.
The twin bill has been moved to Tuesday, March 26 at Mustangs
Park.
Midwestern State senior forward Corbin Thomas garnered Lone Star Conference
Offensive Player of the Week honors Monday afternoon when league officials
announced weekly awards.
The transfer from Missouri State erupted for a
season-high 27 points and pull down 15 rebounds as the Mustangs clinched their
fifth LSC title in the last seven years Wednesday night against Texas
A&M-Commerce.
Thomas added his ninth double double of the season
with a 19-point, 12-rebound effort Saturday at Tarleton State.
The 6-8
Chicago native shot 60.7 percent from the field (17-of-28) and was 11-of-14 from
the charity stripe (78.6 percent) and even connected on his first 3-pointer of
the season against A&M-Commerce.
For the week, Thomas averaged 23.0
points and 15.0 rebounds in 31.5 minutes per game.
The offensive award
is Thomas' first of the season, but he has claimed three defensive player of the
week honors.
Tarleton State junior forward Jon Cathey-Macklin garnered
top defensive honors after averaging five rebounds and two blocks as the Texans
rebounded from a loss at Cameron on Wednesday.
Midwestern State plays
host to Paul Quinn for Senior Day Sunday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
Midwestern State forward Andrea Carter picked up her sixth Lone Star Conference
weekly award of the season as she was named the LSC's Defensive Player of the
Week for the fifth time by the conference office.
Carter directed the
Midwestern State defense as they remained in the hunt for an LSC title with a
pair of second half come-from-behind victories last week.
The 5-10
sophomore from Angleton, Texas recorded her 13th and 14th double-doubles of the
season with 15 points and 14 rebounds in the Mustangs first win in Stephenville
since Dec. 2, 2003 with a 71-63 win at Tarleton State. She also tallied 11
points and 12 rebounds in a 70-62 win over Texas
A&M-Commerce.
Carter averaged 13.0 points and 13.0 rebounds and 3.5
steals for the week, to go with her 2.0 assists as well. She also recorded one
blocked shot (at Tarleton) on the week, as she helped MSU hold their opponents
to 62.5 points a game and shooting 36.1 percent from the floor. She grabbed
exactly one-third of MSU's rebounds during the two games.
Carter is
joined by West Texas A&M forward Devin Griffin who was named the LSC
Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office.
It's the fifth
time Carter has claimed the defensive award and she won the offensive award the
first week of the season.
MSU closes the regular season on Wednesday
against Texas Woman's in LSC play. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
