Smartphones Help Prepare You For Severe Weather

Posted: Updated:

It is Severe Weather Awareness week and it's the perfect time to make sure you know how your mobile phone can help you prepare for severe weather.

Here are some tips:

  •  Back up your contacts
  •  Stay charged up
  •  Store ICE (In Case of Emergency) contacts
  •  It may seem counterintuitive, but during severe weather you can sometimes break through with texting. Text messages take up less bandwidth on the network than calls and may work when phone service is impacted by a storm.

U.S. Cellular hosts free Device Workshops that are open to anyone with questions about how to use their smartphone.  The next one is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 at 3911 Lawrence Road.  Call (940) 689-9738 to RSVP.
