Montague County Sheriff Deputy Shot

A Montague County Sheriff Deputy has been shot inside Bowie city limits.  Deputy James Boyd, 27, was care flighted to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.

At a 3:30p.m. press conference, Montague Co. Sheriff Paul Cunningham said the three-year veteran deputy was under going surgery. He was in stable condition at last check.

The Bowie Police Department confirmed the Deputy was shot multiple times along Hwy. 287 near Hwy. 59 during a routine traffic stop. The suspect fled the scene in a black Cadillac with Colorado plates, toward Wise Co.

He was firing at Wise Co. Sheriff Deputies and DPS Troopers when he wrecked his car in Decatur. He then got out of the vehicle and continued to shoot at authorities. Officers shot the suspect and he was care flighted to the hospital.

The suspect has not been identified, other than as a white in his 30's. Wise Co. Sheriff David Walker said the suspect is "legally dead" but is being kept alive on equipment in order to harvest his organs.

There are reports the suspect may be connected to a shooting in Denver, Colorado that killed Colorado's State Prisons Chief earlier in the week. Sheriff Cunningham said he does not know of any link, besides the fact the suspect was driving a car with Colorado license plates.

Texas Rangers are investigating the entire incident from Montague to Wise County.
