Hyundai And Kia Recall

Corporate siblings Hyundai and Kia are recalling almost 1.9 million vehicles in the U.S. to fix two problems, one involving air bags and the other, faulty brake light switches.

The break light recall covers the 2007 through 2011 models years of the Hyundai:

  • Accent
  • Elantra
  • Genesis Coupe
  • Santa Fe
  • Sonata
  • Tucson
  • Veracruz

Also affected are the 2007 through 2011 model years of Kia's:

  • Optima
  • Rondo
  • Sedona
  • Sorento
  • Soul
  • Sportage

U.S. safety regulators said a faculty switch can stop the brake lights from illuminating when drivers press the pedal.  Also the cruise control might not turn off when a driver steps on the brake.

The automakers will notify owners and replace the switches starting in June.

In addition, Hyundai is recalling the 2011 through 2013 Elantra.  A bracket can come loose when the side air bag inflates and can possibly injure people.
