Finalist Chosen for Rider Basketball Coach

The Rider HS Athletic program has seen a lot of success recently, but one sport that hasn't seen that success has been boys' basketball.

Now, pending school board approval the Raiders will have a new head coach this fall.

That coach will be Cliff McGuire, who has spent the past two seasons at Merkel and the two years before that at Winters.

He does have some Texoma ties, spending three years as an assistant at Olney under J.D. Sullivan from 2006 through 2009.

He takes over a Raider team that sent a player (Christien Sager) to the Big 12 just a couple years ago, but has gone just 16-45 since then, and only 2-24 in district games.

Rider hired another coach with Olney ties as its girls head coach in 2010. Ramsey Ghazal has set school records for wins in each of his three seasons.

The next WFISD Board work session will be Tuesday, April 9 at noon. The board is expected to approve the hire during that session.
